“If someone doesn’t like cookies – be suspicious of them because come on now, who doesn’t love cookies (VEGAN COOKIES IN PARTICULAR!)?!”

I was so stoked to get to review AMAZING cookies/treats from OM NOM NOM Cookies, Sweet by JanaDauphin Bakery and Black+Blanco! These people are cookie magicians or something crazy cool like that. I swear you have tasted little bits of heaven each time you take a bite of these luxurious (yes, I am using luxurious) cookies! The best part is that they make GLUTEN FREE varieties too so really how amazing is that?! Woah, amazing is going to be so overused in this post but again these cookies are AMAZING! I am so in love with them and if you haven’t tried them yet – I plead with you to place your orders now to pick up these tasty treats!

My absolute favorite from OM NOM NOM Cookies is the orange zested chocolate chip cookie of scrumdiddlyumptious, crazy fantastic, totally delicious, awesomness! Each bite is like an explosion of yummy orange and chocolate and I love the fact that these cookies are so crunchy on the outside yet have that moist cookie interior we’re always searching for. I have to say a really good cookie, beyond the flavor, HAS TO HAVE that crunch when you bite into it or it can’t be deemed most amazing cookie ever. Unless of course, it’s soft on purpose and soft cookies hold a special place in my heart too. Remember, back in the day (in your pre-vegan days) when Chips Ahoy! Chewy Cookies were the best thing ever well these cookies trump those by leaps and bounds and intergalactic space time warps.

I was beyond excited when my Vegan Cuts Snack box arrived!

I’ve been dying to try it ever since they came out so when I found out they had chosen me to review the May box I jumped right on it! For those who don’t know what it is, Vegan Cuts provides monthly snack boxes for $19.95 (free shipping within the US!) a month and each month you’ll get tons of goodies delivered straight to your door! It”s a great way to discover new vegan items as well as get enough snacks to last you a month if you don’t end up eating them all at once!

The items that came in the snack box were:

I loved the Vigilant Eats oatmeal because it’s a quick, easy and healthy treat I could take on the go and I love the addition of powdered hemp milk. I have to say I am in no way a fan of the Journey Bar. The idea behind the bar is awesome, a savory nutrition bar but I think the formula needs to be worked on. When I tasted the bar, there was an overwhelming ginger taste that I just could not imagine eating more of. The Earnest Eats bar was a little chalky but had good flavor. The Graw Bar was DELICIOUS! I loved it so much haha. I need to buy tons more of make my own version and I love that there are nothing but simple. natural and healthy ingredients. The Ginny Bakes bar is …..to say the least…..terrible. I honestly checked the date to see if it was expired because it was hard as a rock and tasted stale as can be! I feel bad saying this about it but I have to be honest and it was gross. The Bare Fruit apple chips were super yummy and I adore that there isn’t any added sugar as there shouldn’t be to begin with!

Saffron Road Crunchy Chickpeas = my new favorite snack!

I feel IN LOVE with the chickpeas and I questioned why I hadn’t found them sooner! So yummy and they taste just like litte bit sized falafel goodness! 😀 Onto the rest of the stuff, the Teecino herbal coffee was such a new thing for me and I had no idea what to expect and it actually wasn’t bad at all. I think what I decide to put in it can be changed but overall the taste was sweet, buttery and hazelnut-ty and a great coffee alternative! I could live with having me a cup of Teecino  every morning once I figure out the right proportions!

My boyfriend unfortunately goobled up all of Angie’s Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn so I can’t say much on that but I’m sure it was delicious! I haven’t yet tried the Crystal Deodorant Body Towelettes yet but I’ve heard good things about the brand so I’m looking forward to trying it!

superfoodsuperfood

We all know what superfoods are and what they can do for ue so I decided to create a superfood  PACKED cookie which is almost gluten free! To make it gluten free simply sub the flour with an all purpose gluten free flour and you’re on your way! These cookies pack a superfood punch of golden berries, chia and flax seeds, yumberry powder, goji berry powder, cacao nibs and mulberries!

This is just one of those cookies you won’t feel guilty eating!

superfoodsuperfood

Chia Seeds are known for being rich in Omega-3 fatty acids as well iron, magnesium, fiber, calcium, zinc and antioxidants! Also, they make a great binder and egg replacer similar to flax seeds. Golden Berries are an Incan berry that contain vital nutrients like beta carotene, protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, fiber and others! Cacao is super high in antioxidants and magnesium! Goji Berries have been gaining popularity for years now and with good reason they contain 18 amino acids and more than 20 trace minerals as well as Vitamin A, C and E.  Mulberries are rich in Vitamin C, iron, calcium and fiber! Yumberries are packed with antioxidants and rich in Vitamin C! In China, they’re known as yang mei fruit and have been hailed to aid digestion, fight inflammation and lower bad cholesterol! Let’s not forget the benefits of Flax Seeds which are high in Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids.

The cookies themselves are slightly crunchy from the combination of the cacao nibs and the berries but also chewy and sweet. You would think they would taste like oatmeal cookies but they have a fruity flavor from the berry powders. Definitely worth a try! Make sure to read more for the recipe and a review of New York Natural’s Kale Chips and Greenola plus a special offer!

Have you tried Kale Chips yet?!

snickerdoodle cookies
snickerdoodle cookies

I have this yummy Snickerdoodle Cookies with Peanut Butter filling recipe for you today! I know I’m on a no sugar lifestyle these days but I had to do a recipe that would use up the rest of the organic evaporated cane juice I bought so I made these! They are a COMPLETE INDULGENCE and nothing healthy at all! It’s also a three part recipe which is a bit time consuming but they are worth the effort. Most of the Snickerdoodle recipes I have seen include the cream of tartar but I didn’t have any on hand that’s why it’s not included on the recipe but if you have it, feel free to add it! I would recommend adding 1 ½ teaspoons of it but they do taste amazing without it!

I have come to realize that trying to go about not eating sugar is so hard and not because I can’t have anything sweet because I can but rather the fact that sugar is in everything! I know this isn’t a surprise to anyone but I’m glad I cook about 97% of what I eat and only pre-packaged things like wraps and bread sometimes when I’m not in the mood to make my own. I really do think it’s beneficial for more people to make most of what they eat and I know it’s not possible for everyone but I have feel 10 times better making my own food than buying processed junk.

snickerdoodle cookies

Where I live at the moment, there is a complete and utter lack of cooking and most people just eat pre-packaged pizzas, French fries and everything essentially and they don’t understand why you have to cook three times a day and honestly it baffles me. Growing up, my mom mostly made everything; yeah we had pre-packaged food sometimes but mostly snacks not as actual meals. I find it sad when you’ve come to a point where prepackaged food is the norm and actually making something is too hard of a task for people.

I find it comforting to know what it’s in the food I eat and I love to make my own versions of foods. If I can financially get to a point where I don’t have to buy ANY pre-packaged items and make my own food entirely that will be amazing. It is definitely a goal of mine.

I hope you’re all having a great day!

grapefruit cookies

I never thought to make grapefruit cookies before but I had one lying around and figured they would be similar to lemon cookies and they are! They’re quite delicious! I used evaporate cane juice in this recipes and it worked out well, I find it to be a bit less sweet than the more refined sugar. If you want to use regular sugar you can and you can substitute from cup for cup. I used applesauce in this recipe instead of flax egg because I find it tends to dry out baked goods which is why I don’t use it as much. There are some fun spices and flavoring in this recipe like ginger, cardamom and Fiori di sicilia. Fiori Di Sicilia lends citrus vanilla notes to whatever you put it in and takes these cookies to a whole other level! I suggest buying it but you can use regular Vanilla extract as well.

I’ll be attending the Veggie Pride Parade this Sunday! I’ve never been but since it’s another vegetarian/vegan event I wanted to check it out. Although I hope it’s less obnoxious than I think it will be haha. I only say that because it’s basically a parade of people telling other people to go vegetarian, which is great, but can be highly overbearing. I’m sure there will be tons of great people there though.Plus, there are going to be a bunch of speakers which should be great! I’ll be sure to post about it either Sunday evening or Monday afternoon!

As always, click read more for the recipe!

oatmeal raisin cookies
oatmeal raisin cookies

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies!  These are so good but you definitely need the maple to get that traditional oatmeal raisin cookie tastes so don’t skimp on that and use some other syrup! The cookies are chewy and the texture is perfect, you can even add some roasted walnuts in it if you wanted to.

As always, click read more in the recipe! 🙂
